Hobbies : Falconry, archery, bluegrass music, stuff like that.. PC machine : Win95, 486/80. Born : Belen, NM, March 9, 1962 Instrumentals that you have : guitar, mandolin, bass When did you begin to play ? : I messed around with guitar, mostly undirected fingerpicking starting when I was about 12-13. I first heard bluegrass in Lexington, KY when I was a sophmore in HS. It sounded like something a guy could actually play (and maybe meet girls in the process), so I sold my "classical" guitar and bought an Alvarez steel-stringer. Bought a D-28 the next year. I quickly found out that girls prefer rock 'n roll, but by then I was hooked on bluegrass. Started messing with mandolin and bass about 4 years ago. When & how did you first hear Clarence White's music ? : Picked up Russ Barenberg's book while in Lexington, figuring it would give me the rudiments of bluegrass guitar. Little did I know! I couldn't even begin to figure out how it was supposed to sound,so I started hunting down KY Colonels records and found all but Appalachian Swing in Lexington. I eventually ordered that one from Japan via an ad in Bluegrass Unlimited. While I like all CW's stuff, it's the post-Byrds era that I like best. Any comments : This newsletter is a blast. Great stuff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- #020 Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 22:27:46 -0600 From: Woody Pope Name : Woody Pope E-mail : wpope1@airmail.net Snail mail : 1029 Misty Way Garland,TX 75040 USA> Occupation : Engineer Hobbies : Bluegrass Guitar Playing PC machine : P90 W95 Born : 2/2/37 Alvarado,TX Instrumentals that you have : Martin HD-28 When did you begin to play ? : 12 yrs old When & how did you first hear Clarence White's music ? I was never to see him in person. I have video of those two episodes, and they never really turn Clarence loose. The banjo gets too much attention? Any comments : A friend who studied CWs style raved about it, & really turned me on to him in 72 or so. He had a KC album and I thought they had been speeded up or something. Nobody, even Doc or Dan Crary played like Clarence! What was that back beat thing he did? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- #022 Date: Fri, 27 Jun 1997 19:57:28 +0900 From: Koji Kihara Name : Koji Kihara E-mail : koa7@urban.or.jp Snail mail : Fukuyama-city, Hiroshima, JAPAN Occupation : Licenced Tax Accountant Hobbies : Workaholic(?), Drinking Sake!
