MARTIN GUITAR'S CLARENCE WHITE MODEL 

Legendary guitarist, Clarence White is finally receiving the recognition by the music 
industry. It has been almost thirty years since his death and forty years since he made 
his first recordings, Sierra Records is proud to announce its two nominations of its 
recently released "Clarence White-33 Acoustic Guitar Instrumentals" album (see below to 
order) by International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA); "Instrumental Album of the 
Year" and for Sierra Records' founder and president, John Delgatto, "Best Album Graphics." 

White, who was killed by a drunk driver in July 1973, was the former member of the seminal
 bluegrass group, The Kentucky Colonels and was later the lead guitarist in Rock & Roll 
Hall of Fame group, The Byrds. Ironically, this is the first album ever devoted exclusively
 to his famed acoustic guitar playing. This recording was produced by Sierra Records' 
founder, John Delgatto, with Lawrence Dunlap. Clarence White's daughter, Michelle White 
Bledsoe, served as Executive Producer. John and Michelle have been partners on a number of 
previous Clarence White related releases on Sierra and will continue to do so in the 
future. John Delgatto also received a separate nomination in the album graphics category 
for his design of the album's packaging. 

These solo acoustic flatpicking guitar recordings from the personal tape library of the 
late Clarence White were just recently discovered. This new, compact disc release feature 
his lead flatpick guitar on this all instrumental album. In addition, there is a bonus 
track of Clarence playing lead mandolin. He made these recordings himself with rhythm 
guitarist Roger Bush in 1962. Included with the CD are rare photos of Clarence and 
remembrances by Jerry Garcia, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Roger McGuinn, among others. This 
album is a prelude to the more ambitious Clarence White Box Set now slated for Year 2003.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated toward the purchase and 
installation of a permanent memorial marker near the site of Clarence's untimely death. 
This location that has now been transformed in a beautiful, peaceful roadside park by the 
city of Palmdale, California. 

Clarence White has been inducted into The Fender Guitar Company's new Hall of Legends which 
is in association with Hal Leonard Music as a part of their Fender Player's Club website. 
White is among the first twenty-one legendary guitarists to be installed along with Jimi 
Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dick Dale.

The Clarence White Commemorative Edition Model D-18CW Acoustic Guitar has just been issued 
by the C.F. Martin Guitar Company with yet another White commemorative model being

The Clarence White Box Set and the live Gram Parsons recordings mentioned in the past are 
still only a dream. However, there will be a new and different Clarence White and possibly 
a Gram Parsons project(s) in the works. Just keep buying those CDs and Videos from Sierra 
and it will happen. Regarding our distribution problem with the Disney Company Hollywood 
Records, a "settlement" if you can call it that was reached between us. They kept all the 
money they made from the distribution, returned all the unsold Sierra product they made 
(tens of thousands) and left me with unpaid bills. There is a simple solution out of this 
snafu--have everyone buy any or all of the Sierra released titles (CD 6000-67000 series 
only-see Spring 1997 catalog or web site for list) at the super low price of only $8.00 
each! 
I would also like to get some feedback on a new situation. A number of commercial retail 
outlets want to sell a commercial version of the Gram and Clarence video (see other side-a 
few copies left). To those of you who already purchased this limited edition release, how 
would you feel if it was now more readily available? Obviously, the packaging would have to
 change to conform to the retail market but the video content would remain the same. There 
are still more permissions and royalties to be paid and that would continue if such a 
release were made. Let me know by mail, fax, or email your opinion. 
There is another projecs that I would like to get rolling. The placement of a marble bench 
in honor of Gram Parsons close to the burial site of Clarence White at the Joshua Tree 
Memorial Cemetery Park in Lancaster, California where Gram bid his last farewell to his 
friend. More details later. Lastly, in the coming weeks, the Sierra web site will finally 
be updated on at least a monthly basis and you will be able to order directly from the 
secured site. However, if you still want and need a printed catalog with updates, those are
 still available for now. I am still fighting the good fight and with your support those 

musical buried treasures will become a reality.

crude at best, especially the Gram Parsons performance. It has only been complicated by 
years of deterioration even before they were rescued from being destroyed in the 1980's. 
Every effort has been made to restore the tapes to a minimal playing condition BUT they do 
not even come minutely close to what today's video viewer is accustom to expect in today's 
digital world. These tapes are being released for this one time only for the diehard 
serious collector who is solely interested in the their value as the only live performance

The late Johnny Darrell recorded several country albums for the old United Artists Records 
some with a heavy West Coast presence. He was one of the most imaginative country artists. 
Johnny was the first artist to record such classic country songs as "Green Green Grass of

Nashville West was one of the first and best pre-Byrds country-rock bands featuring the 
late, great Clarence White with some truly trailblazing electric guitar playing. Guitar

The Kentucky Colonels: Livin' In The Past SIERRA CD 6018 $8.00
